Armored entrance-door installation: a project checklist

Before installation

Confirm the approved opening, datum, finished-floor level, handing, swing clearance and interface with the wall build-up. Check the delivered frame, leaf, hardware and finish before removing protective packaging.

Seven-stage installation workflow

1. Set out the frame position from the approved drawing, including height, centre line and opening direction.
2. Place and brace the subframe. Check plumb, level, width and diagonals before permanent fixing.
3. Use the anchorage type, size, spacing and edge distance approved for the actual wall substrate. Recheck the opening after fixing.
4. Complete the specified infill or grouting sequence without distorting the frame, and allow it to cure as required.
5. Install and adjust the main frame and leaf. Confirm even clearances, smooth operation and stable closing.
6. Install and commission locks, handles, access-control devices and other hardware to the approved instructions.
7. Clean, inspect and protect the completed entrance until handover. Record damage or incomplete work immediately.

Acceptance points

The leaf should operate smoothly without rebound or unintended movement. Hardware should be complete, correctly seated and secure. Seals and cover trims should be continuous, aligned and firmly fixed. Protect the finished leaf and hardware from wet trades, impact and construction traffic.

The domestic installation guide references tight frame and diagonal tolerances. For an international project, the contract documents, approved shop drawings, tested installation detail and local code take precedence over a generic tolerance. Installation should be carried out by competent personnel.
